Description

Introduction

Our Linus Tech PC build: a high-end, value-focused enthusiast gaming PC in the spirit of the builds popular on tech YouTube channels like Linus Tech Tips. It pairs an X3D gaming processor with a high-end video card, 32GB of DDR5, and 2TB of fast storage. It is built for high refresh rate gaming at 1440p, demanding new releases with high settings, and streaming or content creation on the side.

Every part was picked from current listings for the best combination of price and compatibility, and the whole list comes to $2,052.80, $140.02 below the parts' reference prices. Prices were checked when this page was last updated and can change, so the total updates with every refresh.

CPU and Cooler

The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core is a 8-core processor on the AM5 socket with integrated graphics. For gaming, a fast six-core-or-better CPU paired with a capable video card delivers high frame rates without overspending on cores most games do not use.

For cooling we added the Thermalright Assassin X120 Refined SE CPU Air Cooler, an air cooler that lists support for AM5, AM4. This CPU does not include a cooler in the box, so one is required.

Motherboard

The ASRock A620AM-HVS AMD Ryzen 9000/8000 / 7000 Series CPU Compatible (Soket AM5) A620A Micro ATX Motherboard is a Micro-ATX board that matches the CPU's AM5 socket and takes DDR5 memory. It is the lowest-cost compatible board in our current listings, which leaves more of the budget for the parts that affect frame rates.

Memory

32GB of DDR5 at 5600 MT/s (TEAMGROUP T-Create Classic 10L DDR5 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) 5600MHz (PC5-44800) CL46 Intel XMP 3.0 & AMD EXPO...). 32GB is the comfortable amount for modern games with a browser, voice chat, and streaming software running in the background. See our guide to how much RAM you need.

Storage

The Silicon Power 2TB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 2280 SSD Solid State Drive (SP002TBP34A60M28) is a 2TB NVMe. A solid state drive makes the PC boot, open apps, and load games far faster than a hard drive. Games keep growing, so 1TB is the practical minimum for a gaming PC.

Video Card

The ASUS PRIME Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB GDDR6 OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card with 16GB of video memory is the heart of this gaming build. 16GB of video memory leaves headroom for high-resolution textures in new releases.

Compare it with other options in our guide to choosing a graphics card.

Case

The ASUS A31 ATX Mid-Tower PC Case fits ATX, Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX boards, so it holds this Micro-ATX motherboard with room to spare.

Power Supply

We estimate this build draws about 519W at full load, so we recommend at least 750W. The ASRock PRO 850G Power Supply provides 850W and is 80 Plus Gold rated, which leaves headroom for upgrades and keeps the fan quiet.

About this build

People searching for a Linus Tech PC build usually want what popular tech channels like Linus Tech Tips champion: a balanced, high-performance gaming PC where the money goes into the parts that matter most, without wasting it on ones that do not. This is our take on that idea, built from current deals. It is not a build from Linus Tech Tips or Linus Media Group, and ClearanceStream is not affiliated with them.

Why an X3D processor

AMD's X3D processors add a large stack of extra cache that many games use heavily, which is why they consistently top gaming benchmarks from independent reviewers. Eight fast cores are plenty for gaming, and the AM5 socket leaves room to upgrade to future Ryzen processors without changing the motherboard.

Where the money goes

Most of the budget goes to the processor and video card, the two parts that decide frame rates. The motherboard, case, and power supply are chosen to be reliable and compatible without paying for features that do not make games faster, and 2TB of NVMe storage leaves room for a large game library.
